I am now very familiar with both Amie and Meagan's books as i have read their previous work such as The Starbound trilogy they co-wrote and Haunted by Meagan Spooner. So while i reading this i was familiar with there writing and story telling ways which i fell straight back into with no problems.
Plot: This book was described as Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft in space and by that synopsis is exactly what i got from this book. This story centres around two main protagonist Amelia Radcliffe the street smart Scavenger and Jules Addison the very smart scholar from two very different worlds. Amelia and Jules lives are thrown together when they both get themselves smuggled onto an alien planet as they are both very eager to discover what lies within the undying temples. There new found very fragile alliance that has brought them together as they try to uncover the secrets of the planet however are also hiding secrets from each other that could be more harmful for themselves and their new found partnership.
I'm still trying to get use to sci-fi stories and i feel like i'm finally starting to find a new found love for them and these two authors just do it brilliantly. This story is very character and plot driven and it shows in what research these two authors did to get every little detail correct and it honestly did pay off in the end because they created a wonderful story. I'm going to be straight up honest in this review because i did find the story hard to get into in the beginning because so much happened with in the first three chapters i was very overwhelming but once i passed the initial opening of the book i found myself loving the world that i had just started reading.
This book is very very science heavy and your probably yelling at your computer or whatever device the kids use these days and you might even be reading this on your apple watch while on a treadmill.. i'm actually kidding about the apple watch but sadly its the way were headed. Back to my review of this book which is why i'm writing a review for, anyway as i said before this book is very science heavy but in a way that even i could understand it was pretty simple stuff so i thank Amie and Meagan for not making it so complicated that i couldn't figure it out.
The plot of the book was very strong and this book is going up there with one of my favourite sci-fi books that i have ever read. The ending of the book i think i need to honestly tell Amie and Megan that was cruel and i'm mildly not happy with how i was left on a cliffhanger like that, I need answers but like the not so patient person i am i will happy wait until 2019 when i finally get the answers i'm waiting for.
Characters: as this story really only focuses on Amelia and Jules i will only be talking about my feelings about these two characters even though this story is full of some really well written side characters!
Amelia Radcliffe: one of the main protagonist of this story, Amelia is the street smart scavenger who gets herself smuggled onto an alien planet surface to try uncover the secrets of the temple and hopefully rescue her younger sister from harm. Out of the two i didn't enjoy Amelia as much however i did find her very funny at times when her and jules had that continuous banter with each other that put very serious moments and simmered them down.
Amelia was badass in her own right and for once a character didn't have to rely on a guy character to help her out and i feel like Amelia was the one helping Jules out more then he helped her out on a lot on the puzzles which i found very amusing. Amelia is strong and very level headed for a character in her situation and from what i can remember Amelia was written by Meagan, and i give props to Meg for writing very strong and able female characters.
Jules Addison: the second of the main protagonist of this story, Jules is the very smart scholar who gets himself smuggled on the alien planet trying to uncover the truth so he can get his father set free after he was taken away for giving out to much information to the public. I really enjoyed Jules he was smart but also come out with some of the best one liners of the entire book, he really made the tension between the two characters brighter then the situation permitted.
Jules is terrible at trying to make himself look good in front of Amelia and it shows for the majority of the book and i can relate because i'm also terribly awkward when it comes to talking to girls so i can relate so much with him on that. I think Jules does try replace humour when hes feeling any bit awkward or like he can't handle the situation that's in front of him. Jules is just an awkward nerd thats the conclusion i can come up with but towards the end he does seem to be able to come out of his shell and be able to be more comfortable around Amelia.

can we take a minute to talk about the ending of this book and how crazy it was i am still a couple of days later while writing this review going back to when i read those last few sentences and how mind blown i was. I was honestly not expecting to hear that group that come through the portal to say they were the original people to live on earth and they were getting ready to fight to take back earth.
I will be very eager to see how this goes down and to see how Amie and Meagan handle this because the first book was so strong and set itself up for a second book and i honestly hope that the second book steps up it's game is bigger and crazier than this one.
This book had the action, the puzzles, the laugh out loud moments, the fast paced story-telling it was just a kick ass way to start the series!
Overall this beginning was slow and very hard to get my head wrapped around it but this story ended up being an action packed and character driven story. Once i got far enough i couldn't put it down i just had to continue to read the book to find out what happened, 5/5 star read and a brilliant opener for this series!
